There's no place like home... especially if it saves you a ton of money for your wedding day! If an intimate wedding with your closest friends and family is your heart's desire (and budget), then here are our top 5 tips on how to create your perfect backyard wedding!
Seriously. This detail can sometimes be overlooked, especially for the couple who is looking to save money. However, a wedding coordinator is truly a priceless investment. Whether you use one to plan all of the details for your backyard wedding (they think of all of the things since they are always around weddings!!) or just someone to make sure your big day goes smoothly (you want to make sure that all of your friends and family members are able to enjoy it with you instead of coordinating), we promise you won’t regret it! If you happen to be in the Houston area, we know the best around! We cannot recommend the fabulous Chardae Renee enough!
As corny as that sounds, it is important to lay out all of your ideas no matter how big or small. This will help create a focal point for your big day. We love Pinterest! How easy is it to scroll all day and choose your favorites to create one seamless feel for your wedding?! We would love it if you would follow us for all things wedding! This is after all one of our absolute favorite things!

Okay, so this technically goes hand-in-hand with the Pinterest point, but really - do-it-yourself projects add that touch of you and your fiance to your special day that simply cannot be bought. Have a favorite pastime? Awesome! Include that in an activity for your guests while they have their cocktail hour or expressed through your decorations. Love pizza like one of our couples? So fun! Include that as well in the food for the evening or even in your engagement photos to have on display. There are literally endless ways to make sure that your wedding is unapologetically you. Have fun with it!
Better yet - maybe even invite them! Maybe this one seems obvious, but if you are hosting a backyard wedding, chances are that you will have a few (probably more than a few) cars around as well as louder music for that super fun reception! You definitely don’t want to ruin your special day with angry neighbors coming over to chat about someone parked in front of their home. If you can’t invite them, maybe create a cute note with some home-made cookies or a tiny gift to let them know what is to come. Here is a link to some of our absolute favorite cookies. You can thank us later. (Can you tell that at least one of us has a HUGE sweet tooth?!)
Think of it this way, if you were having company over, you would make sure to clean your home. You are going to have lots of people over to celebrate you as a couple and this amazing covenant that you are entering into. This one can be done by hiring someone to mow the lawn and garden for you, OR you can use this time to have fun with your soon to be spouse! Play some fun music, get that tan on, and do some weeding together. We love to play the question game, where you ask each other lots of questions to try to get to know each other even more. If it is hot, you can even end your fun time with a quick run through the sprinklers! You will be amazed at what a clean, manicured lawn can do for the overall feel of your day. Your photographers will be able to use the beautiful greenery and florals to make your pictures even more perfect!
We hope these few tips might help you fulfill the best backyard wedding that you can dream of! Radiant [Film & Photo] offers photography and videography services, and we would love to be considered for capturing your big day!
